Rochelle Brickner | The Fifth Kingdom, Nutrient Cycle
The Silent Type, 2015, Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, Lower Level Gallery
Rochelle Brickner is a Kansas City based mixed-media artist. Her work investigates living organisms through the use of natural and synthetic materials such as wool and plastic bags. Brickner is also known for her fine art / utilitarian textiles line created by using up-cycled materials known as Repurpose Me. For the past two years, Brickner has been creating abstract bio-morphic forms that are inspired by the textures, colors, and life cycles characteristic of various species of fungi. Brickner refers to these fungi species as the silent type. Too often, fungi go unnoticed as they quietly exist. Through her work Brickner wants to inspire people to notice and perhaps look at nature in a different way.
