Sharron Hunt announced as Honorary Chair of 2014 ArtsKC Awards

Recognized for role in spearheading Kansas City Chiefs Art Program

Kansas City Metro (October 21, 2013) —ArtsKC – Regional Arts Council announced today that Sharron Hunt will serve as the Honorary Chair for the 2014 ArtsKC Awards. The only daughter of Kansas City Chiefs Founder Lamar Hunt, Sharron Hunt is the chairperson of the Chiefs Art Program.  The 11th Annual ArtsKC Awards will take place on January 24th, 2014 at Starlight Theatre’s Enclosed Stage and honors businesses, individuals, and civic leaders for their commitment to the arts. In addition to the tradition of a program highlighting the talents of local performing arts organizations and awards designed by a featured visual artist, 2014 will be the first year to include a patron party and new awards honoring a more diverse cross section of arts relationships in the region.

In launching the Kansas City Chiefs Art Program in 2012, the Hunt family created an advisory committee composed of leaders from Kansas City’s visual arts community. The collection, located on the Scout Investments Club Level of Arrowhead Stadium, includes works by regional artists and will continue to expand to other parts of the stadium. A curricular component to the collection is currently being created and will be designed to help promote regional culture, provide educational opportunities for the youth of Kansas City and engage the community in a way that touches individuals of all ages and walks of life.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to honor Sharron Hunt for spearheading the art collection at Arrowhead Stadium,” said Harlan Brownlee, ArtsKC President and CEO. “By bringing together community leadership in the arts and making artistic excellence the priority, Hunt has given a voice to the creative expression right here in our region.”

In addition to Hunt’s support of creativity in Kansas City, the relationship between arts and sports will play an integral role in telling the story of connectivity and the arts, a central theme at the 2014 ArtsKC Awards.
