Q. What is your favorite arts memory?

A. Taking art classes in the basement of the Nelson-Atkins Museum as a grade-school kid—I loved getting lost in drawing and painting.

Q. What movie do you watch at least once a year?

A. It’s a Wonderful Life. I love George Bailey’s loyalty to his family and community, despite his desire to “See the world!”

Q. Why do you support the arts?

A. The arts elevate us, inspire creativity and surround us with beauty and new perspectives. Whether it’s visual, performance, spoken word or music, experiencing art stays with you. The arts energize a community and bring people together.


Susan Franke brings more than 20 years of marketing expertise and a passion for the arts to ArtsKC. She began her career as a promotional writer for KCPT, so it’s a full circle moment returning to the nonprofit sector. In between, Susan has held progressive marketing and writing roles at American Century Investments, VML and Scout Investments. She’s also owner of Franke Marketing Services. As owner, she provides freelance writing, brand development and content strategies for clients. Susan earned her master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas and bachelor’s degree in Communications from Missouri State University in Communications. She also completed a writing fellowship at The Poynter Institute, a journalism think-tank.
