Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Drop?

The Drop is an arts and culture access program in the Kansas City region designed to engage individuals who have historically faced barriers to participating in the arts, particularly those living in communities where access to arts opportunities is limited or nonexistent. These barriers, including cost and a lack of belonging, can exclude many residents from the transformative benefits of cultural experiences and community building.

The Drop advances equity and inclusion in audience participation by lowering the cost to participate and providing helpful Know Before You Go information to our member base.

Who can join?

Individuals who reside in areas where access to arts opportunities is limited or nonexistent within the Kansas City region are eligible for membership. Our quick sign-up form asks a few questions to determine eligibility.

What if I don't qualify?

If you do not reside in one of our eligible communities, we encourage you to visit ArtsKCGo.com, our region’s most comprehensive arts calendar, to explore arts events, including free events, in your area.

We recognize that the ability to access the arts is not only determined by where an individual lives; barriers like cost, transportation, time, or a lack of belonging can all contribute. If any of these barriers impact you, we invite you to visit the KC Public Library, one of our Community Ambassadors, to pick up a Membership Card. Cards are available at the front desk of all branches.

I received a Membership Card from a Community Ambassador. Now what?

If you received a Membership Card from a Community Ambassador – welcome! You will be prompted to enter your Member ID number (found on the back of your card) in the registration form. Be sure to keep your card! Proof of Drop Membership is required to access additional discounts and perks at events.

If you did not receive a physical Membership Card but still qualify for the program, you will receive a digital Membership Card in your inbox following sign-up.

How does The Drop benefit regional arts organizations?

The Drop program minimizes the financial burden of discounting tickets for arts organizations by reimbursing up to $50 per ticket, ensuring greater access to arts experiences for underserved audiences. Simply put, we’re making a difference by paying the difference. This approach helps our Arts & Culture Partners expand their audiences while minimizing financial strain and fostering a more inclusive arts community.

How many tickets are available through The Drop?

Members can purchase up to four tickets per event as availability allows. A limited number of Drop tickets are available for each event. There is currently no limit to the number of events a member can attend through The Drop.
