Earlier this year, ArtsKC, a nonprofit regional arts council based in Kansas City, launched a new program: The Drop, an arts and culture access program designed to reduce the cost of local events. The program helps break down financial barriers that may prevent folks from being able to participate in arts events, shows and exhibits.
Sponsored by the Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation, ArtsKC is partnering with 11 local arts and culture organizations to offer heavily discounted tickets to arts programs and shows, with most being offered at a flat rate of $10.
Members can purchase discounted tickets to local arts events, like creative workshops offered at Cherry Pit Collective—communal studio space centered on women, The Heart Of America Shakespeare Festival and Starlight’s Broadway Series. Becoming a member is free and each member can purchase up to four discounted tickets per event, along with getting other perks like discounts on concession, merch and parking.
“One thing I love about The Drop is once you arrive at a concert, performance or exhibition—even though you got the discounted ticket—you’re not siloed into the nosebleed seats or given the last entry,” says Carter Bryant, a programs associate at The Drop. “Once you’re at the venue, you get to experience the event with everyone else.”
ArtsKC is on a mission to make creative experiences more accessible to all while supporting the local art scene. The Drop hopes to bring creativity into the lives of participants while boosting KC’s economy through more attendance and engagement with the arts.
