I drop to feel a sense of who I am
in an everchanging world that doesn’t seem
to reflect me –
I drop to feel free among those who call me
back to my humanity
I drop to feel the beat, the rhythm, the river’s pulse
in the veins of my streets
to engage my spirit in a way that makes me feel complete
to escape into reality and feast
on what feeds my soul –
what gives me solace in a world gone cold as ICE
I drop to feel a protected defense
that lets love and community flow in
I drop to remember that we are the ones who win
because our joy is now –
in the midst of this reverence, this rootedness
this VERY connected crowd.
I drop because I can afford to now
to be in spaces where we’ve been historically kept out
welcomed to be our true selves whether quiet or loud
meet our neighbors, savor the flavor
of what can be born from the human mind
I drop to feel empowered in these times
enlightened– even though they try to steal our shine
hand in hand, through laughter and through tears
I drop to shed the weight of these long and heavy years
I drop to feel my city and be a part of the action
I drop to feel alive and free
in a world that’s so exacting
Because when I look to my left and to my right
and I witness who is on stage in that golden light
I just know what’s been said is true:
I drop because it helps me understand
that I am because you are,
and because you are
I am.
The Drop is an arts and culture access program in the Kansas City region designed to engage individuals who have historically faced barriers to participating in the arts, particularly those living in communities where access to arts opportunities is limited or nonexistent. These barriers, including cost and a lack of belonging, can exclude many residents from the transformative benefits of cultural experiences and community building.
The Drop advances equity and inclusion in audience participation by lowering the cost to participate and providing helpful Know Before You Go information to our member base.
Individuals who reside in areas where access to arts opportunities is limited or nonexistent within the Kansas City region are eligible for membership. Our quick sign-up form asks a few questions to determine eligibility.
If you do not reside in one of our eligible communities, we encourage you to visit ArtsKCGo.com, our region’s most comprehensive arts calendar, to explore arts events, including free events, in your area.
We recognize that the ability to access the arts is not only determined by where an individual lives; barriers like cost, transportation, time, or a lack of belonging can all contribute. If any of these barriers impact you, we invite you to visit the KC Public Library, one of our Community Ambassadors, to pick up a Membership Card. Cards are available at the front desk of all branches.
If you received a Membership Card from a Community Ambassador – welcome! You will be prompted to enter your Member ID number (found on the back of your card) in the registration form. Be sure to keep your card! Proof of Drop Membership is required to access additional discounts and perks at events.
If you did not receive a physical Membership Card but still qualify for the program, you will receive a digital Membership Card in your inbox following sign-up.
You can request a new digital copy of your card be sent to your email by filling out this form.
The Drop program minimizes the financial burden of discounting tickets for arts organizations by reimbursing up to $50 per ticket, ensuring greater access to arts experiences for underserved audiences. Simply put, we’re making a difference by paying the difference. This approach helps our Arts & Culture Partners expand their audiences while minimizing financial strain and fostering a more inclusive arts community.
Members can purchase up to four tickets per event as availability allows. A limited number of Drop tickets are available for each event. There is currently no limit to the number of events a member can attend through The Drop.
