ZAPP
ZAPP® enables individual artists to apply online to multiple art shows through one central website, ZAPPlication.org. The online application process also allows artists to directly upload digital images of their artwork for jury review. The result is that all artwork in the system is in a consistent, high-quality, digital format. The digital images are presented to the jurors of each show and the system allows them to score online. Has national listings of upcoming opportunities.
The Brookside Art Annual is produced by the Brookside Business Association. It is a non-profit organization of merchants working to promote and improve the community in the heart of Kansas City. Dominated by quaint neighborhoods, the Brookside neighborhood becomes the center of the Midwest art community each May. The Brookside Art Annual is known for its festive atmosphere, hospitality, convenience, and has become a must-attend event for artists and art seekers alike.
FAI has provided advocacy, support, networking, showcase opportunities and professional development services for the international folk music community. With more than 3,000 members worldwide, the annual conference is the world’s largest gathering of the folk music industry and community, and one of the five largest music conferences in North America (and one of the friendliest).
Members of FAI include individuals, organizations and businesses. The conference draws over 2,500 artists, presenters, agents, managers, music support services reps, manufacturers, record companies, publishers, radio DJs, funders and others that work in the field.

KC Fringe is a Missouri-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to connect adventurous artists with adventurous audiences. The KC Fringe Festival, an annual 11-day performing and visual arts extravaganza. It straddles a thin, frayed line between mass appeal and eclectic tastes. Fringe links these two worlds together, showing that it is the bridge you take to be inspired and entertained no matter what your taste may be. Below is what you can expect to experience at Fringe.
After celebrating its 83rd year in 2014 with 240 artists from across the country, the Plaza Art Fair has impressively become a top-ranked, national art event. But, perhaps even more impressively, it continues to be a weekend of people simply celebrating art and each other, as well as Kansas City’s unofficial welcome to the fall season.
The annual festival has become a Kansas City tradition and is a favorite among local artists. The three-day event will take place in Historic Westport, providing the perfect backdrop for a “Kansas City” Artists Fair. Top artists from around the Metro will line the streets of Westport showcasing their original art, unique jewelry, fine crafts and much more.

Inspiration grants are project grants for individual artists or small groups of artists. Visual, dance, music, theater, poetry, and interdisciplinary art applications are welcome. Ambitious projects of risk, growth, and change for the artist while making a positive impact on the community are the highest priority for these grants.

Bard Fiction Prize
The Bard Fiction Prize is awarded to a promising emerging writer who is an American citizen aged 39 years or younger at the time of application. In addition to a $30,000 cash award, the winner receives an appointment as writer-in-residence at Bard College for one semester, without the expectation that he or she teach traditional courses. The recipient gives at least one public lecture and meets informally with students.
Charlotte Street Visual Artist and Generative Performing Artist Awards
Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards recognize and significantly support Kansas City-based visual artists of all media who are creating exceptional, contemporary work. Providing artists with financial support, critical recognition, and public exposure, these Awards aim to reward artistic accomplishment to date and to support the continued development of artists’ work and careers. The Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Awards aim to recognize and significantly support Kansas City-based artists producing exceptional performance-based work that is original, innovative, and progressive. Providing artists with financial support, critical recognition, and public exposure, these Awards aim to reward artistic accomplishment to date and to support the continued development of artists’ work and careers. Eligibility: Artists, curators, collectives, collaborative, partnerships, and artist-run spaces residing within an 80-mile radius of the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Lawrence, Kansas, are eligible to apply. Non-profit organizations, current students or recent undergraduate students are not eligible. Artists may not receive a Rocket Grant two years in a row. Award Amounts: $10,000. Important Dates: Awards Calls usually open late October.
Creative Writing Fellowships – National Endowment for the Arts
The NEA Literature Fellowships program offers $25,000 grants in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry to publish creative writers that enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement. The NEA Literature Fellowship program operates on a two-year cycle with fellowships available in alternative years. Award Amounts: Offers $25,000 grants.
Foundation for Contemporary Arts
Offers Emergency Grants: prompt funding for innovative visual and performing artists who have unanticipated, sudden opportunities to present their work to the public when there is insufficient time to seek other sources of funding; incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates. Offers other grants, but are nomination-only.
Fractured Atlas, Inc.
Mission: Fractured Atlas empowers artists, arts organizations, and other cultural sector stakeholders by eliminating practical barriers to artistic expression, so as to foster a more agile and resilient cultural ecosystem. Offers fiscal sponsorships.
Funds for Writers
FundsforWriters is an online resource for writers. You can be a thirty-year veteran or a part-time wannabe, but here at FundsforWriters (FFW), we consider you a writer none-the-less. We emphasize finding money to make writing a realistic career. Of course, you’d write anyway. That’s the way of a writer. We focus on markets, competitions, awards, grants, publishers, agents, and jobs for your writing abilities, with motivation chucked in.
Harpo Foundation – Grants for Visual Artists
The Harpo Foundation was established in 2006 to support artists who are under-recognized by the field. The foundation seeks to stimulate creative inquiry to encourage new modes of thinking about art. We view the definitions of art and artist to be open-ended and expansive.
Eligibility: Self-defined under-recognized visual artist 21 years or older, United States citizen, not currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program at the time of application, and not a previous recipient of a direct grant. Artists who have been supported by organizational grants in the past are eligible to apply for a direct grant. Award Amount: Awards are made of up to $10,000

Offers Individual Support Grants and Emergency Grants to painter, printmakers, or sculptors.
John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship
Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for individuals who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. The Foundation receives approximately 3,000 applications each year. Although no one who applies is guaranteed success in the competition, there is no prescreening: all applications are reviewed. Approximately 175 Fellowships are awarded each year. Application deadlines are in September or October each year. Award amounts vary.
KCK Small Business Grant A new KCK Small Business Resiliency Grant Program has been announced. Grant applicants are eligible to apply for up to $10,000 in funding. Lee’s Summit Arts Council (LSAC) Annual Grant Opportunity and Mini-Grants
To support the cultural arts in our community the LSAC will accept requests for financial support of up to $1,000, which are reviewed annually; and for Mini-Grants of up to $500, which are reviewed monthly. Support funds must be used for cultural art events/programs that take place in Lee’s Summit. Individuals and organizations can apply. The following criteria will be considered: community impact, demonstrated need for support, creative use of funds, artistic quality, ability to administer and implement project, and the diversity of population served.
Mid America Arts Alliance
Our grantmaking programs provide money directly to artists to continue their important work, and directly to arts organizations to support new arts activities in their communities. In partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the state art agencies in our region, M-AAA offers two grant programs: Artistic Innovations and the Regional Touring Program.

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation grants program aspires to a vibrant, equitable, and sustainable world through the power of creative problem solving. Offers various grants, including the Artist as Activist grant.
Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants
The program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for unexpected medical emergencies. New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is proud to partner with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation to administer a new emergency grant program called Rauschenberg Emergency Grants. This marks the first phase of a program that will be in the tradition of Change, Inc., a non-profit foundation established in 1970 by Robert Rauschenberg to assist professional artists of all disciplines in need of emergency medical aid. The program will provide one-time grants of up to $5,000 for unexpected medical emergencies. The grants are available to visual and media artists and choreographers who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents in the United States, District of Columbia, or U.S. Territories. If you aren’t sure if your artistic discipline fits within these guidelines, please contact the grants administrator.
Rocket Grants – Charlotte Street Foundation
Rocket Grants enable individuals and groups of artists to take new risks with their work, push the scope and scale of their activities, develop and purse collaborative projects and engage with the public and public realm in inventive and meaningful ways. Rocket Grants fund projects that: happy in surprising places, challenge mainstream methods of thinking, making or presentation, add energy and diversity to regional art ecology, encourage the development of new kinds of audiences, address and provide opportunities for creative growth to either the artists community or the general public.
Eligibility: Artists, curators, collectives, collaborative, partnerships, and artist-run spaces residing within an 80-mile radius of the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Lawrence, Kansas, are eligible to apply. Non-profit organizations, current students or recent undergraduate students are not eligible. Artists may not receive a Rocket Grant two years in a row. Award Amounts: $2,000-$6,000.
Speculative Literature Foundation
Focused specifically on serving the speculative literature (science fiction, fantasy, and horror) community. Offers grants and a host of community resources, covering a broad range of topics, such as academic resources for teachers, convention listings for fans, editorial guidelines for self-publishers, and much more.
Sustainable Arts Foundation
The Sustainable Arts Foundation supports artists and writers with children. We make annual unrestricted cash awards to individuals; at least half of these awards are made to applicants of color. We also support artist residencies in their efforts to make their programs more family friendly.
Theatre Communications Group
Theatre Communications Group (TCG) provides information on grants for individuals, specifically, actors, directors, writers, and theatre professionals.
Translation Projects – National Endowment for the Arts
Translation Projects enable recipients to translate work from other languages into English.

National Coalition Against Censorship
NCAC’s mission is to promote freedom of thought, inquiry and expression and oppose censorship in all its forms. Over 40 years, as an alliance of more than 50 national non-profits, including literary, artistic, religious, educational, professional, labor, and civil liberties groups, we have engaged in direct advocacy and education to support First Amendment principles. NCAC is unique in that we are national in scope, but often local in our approach. We work with community members to resolve censorship controversies without the need for litigation.

The Latino Writers Collective (LWC) is a group of Latino writers living and working in the Kansas City metropolitan area and throughout the Midwest. Through bi-weekly meetings and critiques, the LWC helps hone and polish the work of its members for publication. In addition to creative support, the LWC organizes and coordinates projects for the larger community to showcase national and local Latino writers and provide role models and instruction to Latino youth. The LWC’s mission as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is to foster an environment where the voices of Latino students, blue collar workers, professionals, and homemakers can be heard, contributing their experience and vision to the larger community.

Charlotte Street Foundation – Studio Residency Program
Charlotte Street’s Studio Residency Program, located in downtown Kansas City, MO, advances the organization’s mission of challenging, nurturing and empowering artists of exceptional vision by providing free studio space, rehearsal space, and related support that enables exceptional artists of all disciplines to advance their art practices and artistic careers. Over the past ten years, Charlotte Street Foundation’s Studio Residency Program has supported the development of many hundreds of artists. Visual artists, writers, and performing artists (composers/musicians, choreographers/dancers, theatre artists) are eligible for the year-long residencies, with terms beginning each September.

Lighton International Artists Exchange Program
The Lighton International Artists Exchange Program (LIAEP) works to make the world a smaller place by giving artists of different cultures the opportunity to work together in the hope that lasting friendship and understanding will develop. The program provides support for visual artists and arts professionals to travel to international residencies and artist communities and for foreign visual artists to travel to and work in the United States. The program seeks applications from dedicated artists who create work of exceptional quality and whose work and career is at a level to benefit from international exchange with peers. The program is especially interested in funding artists who have not yet worked in a foreign country and in funding travel and residencies to countries that are less Westernized. Artists from Kansas City and Central Plains / Midwest area receive first priority for funding.
Osage Arts Community
Osage Arts Community is a place that provides temporary time, space, and support for the creation of new work in a retreat format. These creative residencies are generally anywhere from one week to one year but average around six months. OAC serves creative people of all kinds – visual artists, composers, poets, fiction and nonfiction writers. OAC is located on a 152-acre farm in an isolated rural mountainside setting in Central Missouri bordered by ¾ of a mile of the Gasconade River.
Res Artis – Worldwide Network of Artist Residencies
We are a network of over 600 centers, organisations, and individuals in over 70 countries. Each of our members is dedicated to offering artists, curators, and all manner of creative people the essential time and place away from the pressures and habits of every-day life, an experience framed within a unique geographic and cultural context.
Rome Prize – American Academy in Rome
Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to about thirty artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their careers. Recipients of a full-term Rome Prize Fellowship are invited to Rome for approximately eleven months. Half-term fellowships (lasting about 5-months) are offered in Design. Applicants in Architecture, Historic Preservation & Conservation, and Landscape Architecture have a choice of either full- or half-term fellowships. Pre-doctoral applicants in the field of art history may apply for a two-year fellowship. A Rome Prize includes room and board, a stipend and separate work space, as well as privileged access to Rome. The deadline for the US nation-wide Rome Prize competition is in November each year, approximately.

The Studios, Inc. provides residencies that include studio space, professional development, networking, and exhibitions for mid-career artists in Greater Kansas City and serves more than 20,000 community residents and visitors each year.
Tallgrass Artist Residency
The two-week residency program is headquartered at The Bank Art Space in the small community of Matfield Green, KS. This residency seeks to create connection and conversation across the Great Plains by requesting that applicants currently live in a place that is ecologically considered prairie (though it may be paved and urbanized!). Ideal applicants will have a strong body of work with a voice that reflects the artist’s own community; a dedication to place, and an interest in participating in a contemporary dialogue. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and career levels, media and practice.

Mental Health Resources to Help Prevent Creative and Professional Burnout
While burnout is not new, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused additional strain on an already stressed workforce, leading to a loss of productivity, physical fatigue, anxiety, insomnia and other physical and psychological symptoms. On top of all of that, creative tech professionals, like UX/UI designers, also have to cope with creative burnout, which can lead to an inability to think creatively or perform creative tasks.

The distinctive seven-story brick building that was once used for furniture manufacturing is now made up of artists’ studios, making it a unique art destination in one of Kansas City’s most historic neighborhoods. There you can use the studio, reserve equipment and let your imagination soar. In 2013, Belger Arts expanded the Foundation’s commitment to the creative process by opening Belger Crane Yard Studios, an arts complex dedicated to providing studio and exhibition space for artists. The range of programming in ceramics education, in addition to the Red Star Residency program and Crane Yard Clay ceramics supply store, has made Belger a center for contemporary art.

Established in 2012, Vulpes Bastille is currently home to a number of practicing visual artists. Vulpes Bastille Studios consists of a spacious art gallery and a collection of studio spaces in a 6,300 square foot warehouse located in the Kansas City Crossroads district. Poet Laureate – Missouri State
The Missouri Poet Laureate has the opportunity to foster the art of poetry, encourage literacy and learning, and encourage the reading and writing of poetry across the state. The Missouri Poet Laureate enriches the lives of residents by sharing and promoting poetry through public appearances, readings, workshops, and digital and social media. The Missouri Poet Laureate will create a new work about the state of Missouri during their term. Upon invitation, the Missouri Poet Laureate will provide public readings/events in urban and rural settings across the state that educate students, community members, and business, state, and civic leaders about the value and importance of poetry and creative expression. The Missouri Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term. Nominations are accepted every two years through a process administered by the Missouri Arts Council.
