The Accounting Manager is a team-oriented, service driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and supports the accounting and operations functions of the organization.  This individual is organized, possesses a professional demeanor, and is capable of providing high levels of customer service to ArtsKC staff members and constituents.  The Accounting Manager performs accounting, administrative, and professional functions to support various programs and services of ArtsKC, follows organizational policies and procedures, and executes activities within established long and short-range organizational objectives.  This person also oversees the effective administration of ArtsKC’s accounting system and assists with human resource functions. 

Supervisor:  The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and Operations but also works closely with all staff members and ArtsKC constituents.

Status: Full-time, direct hire, non-exempt position.

General Overview:  Works directly with the Vice President of Finance and Operations and other staff, as directed, to help with the management of the Accounting and CRM databases, Human Resources, and Accounting functions of The Metropolitan Arts Council of Greater Kansas City (dba ArtsKC – Regional Arts Council).

Handle or oversee all accounting functions, in coordination with the Vice President of Finance and Operations.  This includes but may not be limited to:

Daily accounting functions, such as data entry, processing of daily accounting transactions, account reconciliation, and file maintenance.

Works closely with other staff members to ensure collection of pledges and accounts receivable transactions.

Manage and coordinate all functions needed to ensure the accounting database is fully functional and is current with all upgrades.

Create or maintain all accounting procedures and updates, as needed.

Assist in the preparation of accounting reports and board management reports.

Banking functions to ensure that they are handled in a timely manner.  This will include updating daily schedules, renewals of certificates of deposits, bank reconciliation functions, and ensuring that check signers are appropriately set up for all bank accounts per organizational policy.

Annual budgeting process.  This also includes budget variance analysis and reporting and providing budget information to staff members.

Assist in the annual audit and IRS tax preparation work.  This includes the preparation of audit schedules, coordination for fieldwork, and preparing and coordinating the bank confirmations.

Maintain the existing accounting system for full efficiency and implementation of a new accounting system as required.

In coordination with the Vice President of Finance and Operations, handle or ensure that all Human Resource functions are properly handled. This may include:

Payroll processing.

Prepare and maintain job descriptions for all staff members.

Renewals of all employee benefits.

Coordinate the onboarding and exit processes for staff members.

Coordinate with the Vice President of Finance and Operations to handle or ensure that all office functions are properly maintained.  This includes:

Ensure that all annual organizational insurance policies are renewed promptly for risk management.  This includes renewal of the Directors & Officers (D & O) Coverage in March, the Workers Compensation Insurance in May, and the Business Office Policy (BOP) in September of each year.

Take a shared role, with other staff members, as assigned, in data management and functional support of the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system to ensure accurate data and functionality needs of the organization.

Required Technical Skills, Experience, and Education

A minimum of five years of accounting experience

Bachelor’s degree or appropriate level of experience

Not-for-profit experience preferred

Strong understanding of Accounting and FASB guidelines

Strong accounting systems knowledge, including FinancialForce and Sage systems

Proficient in Microsoft systems, primarily Word and Excel, including pivot tables

Strong CRM donor database knowledge at an operational level. SalesForce experience a plus

Experience transitioning systems and/or adopting new systems and databases a plus

Strong technical and systems skills to implement and/or fully maintain the accounting system

Good verbal and written communication skills

 Benefits:

The base annual salary range for this position is between $48,000 – $60,000. Other compensation includes excellent health, vision, and dental insurance, a 401K Plan, and life and disability insurance.  The base salary will depend on skills, qualifications, and experience.  This role is a full-time, non-exempt position.
